Ludwig was born in West Germany's countryside. He has a nice, normal, childhood with a noble loving family with Prussian roots, where he developed his love for art, music, writing and similar interest. Early on, he wanted to be a writer. To do so, he took a lot of writing lessons. By the age of 5, he was already pretty skilled in writing.
When WW1 happened, his father went to the battlefield, letting little Ludwig behind, who was confused and afraid. When his father came back from the war in 1918, Ludwig saw the atrocities of the war in front of him for the first time, but not the last.
He has been deeply impacted by his father's post war traumatic consequences.
Soon enough, Ludwig's family started to suffer from lack of food because of the Versailles Treaty's terms and they also started to lose their wealth.
In 1932, Ludwig got called to join the army as the country was starting to rebuilt himself military-speaking.
During his training, he got noticed by the higher ranks for his great sense of strategy and his skill for disarming enemies.
When WW2 started, Ludwig got sent with his comrades in Poland to hunt Jewish citizens. During one of the attacks, he cornered a group of citizens and got attacked by one in the chest, as he was having hesitation to shoot them.
Scared for his life, and in atrocious pain, he shot all the citizens present, but immediately felt a deep guilt and regret in front of their dead bodies.
This event deeply impacted Ludwig. From it, he gained a large scar on his chest and one on his back.
After this event, Ludwig continued his work in Poland until he got sent to France for occupation, in eastern side of the country. In the same time, he got promoted for his great sense of strategy during Poland's battles.

In France, he got affected to a small farmers village, and to one of the houses as a place to live during the time. That's how he came to meet Vivi, a French woman who started to live with him. Ludwig immediately crushed over her but got hurt by her fear of him. However, with time to built trust, Ludwig managed to become friends with Vivi. As time passed, they became lovers, sharing a lot of ups and downs together in these dark times.
Ludwig's fate depends on the ending : either he dies in Berlin, either he stays alive...

Ludwig is a very kind and polite man. He's attracted to arts and nature, but learned the hard way to appear cold to others, and to hide his soft side to be respected...and obeyed.
Ludwig is very protective of Vivi, as he has separation anxiety. He's scared to see her being hurt.
Ludwig hates to harm people, and prefers to disarm his enemies.
He is very skilled in defensive strategy.
Outside battles, he loves to write and pass time with Vivi. He's a very affectionate person, skilled in body language.
He has a good control over his emotions, and is hard to anger.
However, he can be too trusting and naïve. Despite being an introvert, he is actually very friendly.
Also, even if he is from a rich family, Ludwig can live modestly and doesn't mind it. However, he dislike to have dirt or anything bad on his skin, except on his hands.

During the course of events, his general, and affective father, gave him his Iron Cross for his act of defending the village against the Gestapo.
It's important to note that Ludwig does not trust the SS and their affiliates.

He speaks German, and fluent French.
His family kept their noble traditions.

It's later revealed that Ludwig got experimented on when he joined the army, by the Nazi scientists. Like a lot of others men, they injected a serum in him, in his neck. This serum is normally dormant but a trigger can activate it. The effect is violent : it makes the body produces a ton of hormones like adrenaline, and rise up the subject emotional response and anger. As a result, the subject is very aggressive and destructive for a short period of time, as the serum also shut down the brain, only letting the reptilian brain active. The subject have difficulties to talk and think, and he becomes extremely protective of what he normally protects.
This serum was injected to him and others to turn them into loyal, living killing machines once triggered, but it turns out that for Ludwig, it makes him very protective of Vivi, even against his own army.

  • Full name : Vivi Casse

  • Age : 24

  • Gender : female

  • Height : 162 cm

  • DOB : 1st of January 1915

  • Nationality : French

  • Status : taken

Vivi is a French citizen, daughter of farmers who live in eastern France, in a small village. She lost her mom when she was 10 from a lethal disease. Due to the lack to medication and money, they couldn't save her. After losing her mom, Vivi became very close to her father Georges. As she is an only child, Georges always has been her only family.

As a kid, Vivi didn't go to school much but helped her dad taking care of their animals and vegetables. In her free time however, she started to binge read and learned how to write properly by herself. Writing became her main hobby, a way to express herself, as she was very introverted when it comes to her feelings.

Vivi was naturally a happy ray of sunshine to others, as she always tried to see life in a happy way. Being born at the start of the WW1, she doesn't remember much but her dad told her stories of his experiences as a soldier in the Verdun trenches.
However, her dad left in 1940 to go back to war, living her alone in their home. Bit by bit, because of the war and her dad's stories, she developed a hate and fear of German people, viewing them as nothing but brainless monsters.
Trapped in her hate and fear, she put away her good mood to become bitter. During the time, she was more and more writing but she was having mental breakdowns.
Finally, occupation came and her house has been chosen to welcome Ludwig, a Werhmacht leutnant. Of course, Vivi immediately closed herself to him, but she was also terrified of the situation.
However, as time passed, Ludwig showed nothing but kindness to her, and awkward tries to talk with her..in a bad French.
Ludwig wasn't threatening at all, the girl was confused. Moreover, he seemed to like writing too. The girl was curious and put her defenses down a little. After all, he was here, she has someone else to talk to.
So, she decided to start trusting him, though not forgetting he was an enemy.
Vivi became close to Ludwig with time, eating with him and sharing writing sessions in silence. She calmed down her hate for German people a bit, as others in the town weren't exactly bad as well. They were even as confused as she was.
The girl was seeing them as humans.
Months after Ludwig came into her life, her friendliness to him started to turn into feelings, but she was too shy to admit it, not knowing Ludwig also has feelings to her.
This mutual pining went on for some weeks.
Eventually, they could confess to each other and Vivi became very protective of Ludwig and of some of the others Germans living in the village.
After learning the SS killed everyone in a village nearby, it became clearer to her that she still had to remain wary. Like Ludwig, she holds a strong hate for SS and the Gestapo.
But unlike him, she is far from being naïve. Ironically, she can be more aggressive than him, especially if he is under a threat.

Vivi has a bad reputation among other French, accusing her of being a collaborator, which she isn't. Vivi is reckless with French Resistance members, she doesn't like them for they could take Ludwig's life.
She is pretty much conflicted between her duty as a French and her love for Ludwig.
That's why her relationship with him is deep and fragile in the same time.
She is sensitive to subtle changes in him, as she still fears him a bit.

An important event will be a cause of awakening the old hate in her heart when she learned her father died by Germans in a fight. She will slap Ludwig while crying, calling him horrible names.
Broken, and wanting her to not be stressed more, Ludwig will isolate himself from her for a time.
However, Vivi will understand she can't hold on without him and she will ask him for forgiveness.
Later, they'll say goodbye to Vivi's father's grave together.
During the liberation of France, Vivi tried to overcome her conflict but still choose to keep Ludwig safe at least. After the war, she'll get shaved by others French, and exposed in public with a swastika on her forehead.
Vivi will isolate herself from society after this.
It's uncertain if her and Ludwig will meet again.

Vivi is a calm girl but she is actually very sensitive and emotive. It's quite easy to provoke emotional emotions from her, and Ludwig is her keepsake.
Vivi also holds grudge for a long time, she is an introvert but she won't hesitate to fight if she have to.
But she is also very cowardly. If she is afraid of something, she'll start to play dozens of scenarios in her head. Because of this, she has frequent nightmares.

On the other side, she can be soft and benevolent to people who are friendly to her.
She's just very wary.

She speaks a little of German but her accent is awful.

When her mom died, Vivi draw a lot, and she created her own character to symbolize her mother : a giant blue wolf who could take a human form. She exists only in Vivi's imagination. Then, her father joined it as its own character following the same pattern, with a lot of creatures symbolizing her inner fears and doubts.
Later, her short story combined with Ludwig's one, and they both wrote a novel : Kingdom Hearts.

Georges Casse : a French soldier and Vivi's father, who fought during WW1 in the Verdun Trenches. Before being a soldier, Georges was a cook, working in a town near his own.
During the Great War, he got abandoned by his teammates during an operation.
He got saved by Friederich, a German soldier, from a certain death. Then, he met Hans too and the trio would see each other frequently. Eventually, Georges promised Friederich he would take care of Ludwig if something would happen.
When war was over, Georges came back home to take care of his daughter and her sick wife, who died a little while after due to lack of money to pay her medication.
After such a loss, Georges became overprotective of Vivi, but had to leave again for WW2.
He never saw his German friends again, and will die from the German army in 1944, after having saved a young German soldier from his own comrades, he was running away from the French army to come back home.
While his body won't be found, his grave will be in Vivi's garden.
Georges was a kind man, patient, and dedicated to his family.
He always wanted the world to be in peace and hated his job as a soldier.

Hans Kronieg : Hans is a force of nature. An excellent colonel during WW1, he was the hero of his division. Feared but admired for his ruthless personality and sense of honor, Hans knows how to induce terror in the hearts of his foes...and soldiers. However, his true nature showed up when his best friend Friederich came to him holding a hurt French soldier during WW1. Wary at first, he will ended up helping him, sparing him as well.
Hans is actually a strict but fatherly leader to his troops. After his best friend returned to war with deep mental traumas, he started to take care of his young son : Ludwig himself, as an ultimate act of camaraderie. He reassured a scared Ludwig when he got called to become a soldier, and will accompany him all the way, including to France. Like his protegee, Hans will fall for a French woman, but will stop when he'll realize she was a member of the French Resistance. Wise, and skilled, Hans will take Vivi in affection as well, as he had promised her dad to protect her.
Hans values honor above anything, he despise those who kill for no reason.
Like Ludwig, he'll probably die in Berlin in 45, but after a life as a Werhmacht general.
He lost his daughter when she was a baby and reported his affection on the young Leo, the son of the woman he lives with.
He loves her, but he isn't good with showing it.
